Unveiling FLUX: Freefly's groundbreaking first LiDAR system and the next step for Aerial Precision

Ana Rouxinol

In August, during Freefly Fest, Freefly Systems introduced FLUX, its first LiDAR solution, and later released it in October. This launch represents a significant advancement for the mapping and surveying community. FLUX is designed to deliver exceptional simplicity, speed, and accuracy, redefining the on-site 3D capture experience.

At Aerial Precision, we are both excited and familiar with the introduction of FLUX. While this system is undeniably innovative, it aligns seamlessly with the direction we have been pursuing for years. Our partnership with Freefly Systems didn't create a new path, it accelerated a shared vision: LiDAR that is powerful, intuitive, and designed for real field conditions.

FLUX embodies that shared mission.

A new era of on-site LiDAR

Traditional LiDAR workflows often involve extensive processing and require desktop software, which can take hours. FLUX simplifies this process.

By combining Freefly’s flight technology with advanced LiDAR hardware and the streamlined Flow App, FLUX enables users to move from scanning to decision-making in just minutes. Processing occurs directly in the field on an iPad, eliminating the need for expensive software or lengthy post-processing.

This workflow-first approach aligns with what we advocate at Aerial Precision: LiDAR should enhance operators' efficiency, not hinder it.

Three FLUX models, one workflow

The FLUX lineup consists of three purpose-built systems:

  • FLUX L1 - Makes professional LiDAR mapping more accessible without compromising on capability. Affordable, reliable, and lightweight, it’s the entry point to high-value 3D capture.
  • FLUX H1 - Delivers professional-grade LiDAR in a lightweight sub-700 g package, built for operators who need accuracy they can trust anywhere in the world. Designed for global travel and all-day missions, it’s the perfect solution when accuracy, portability, and reliability are non-negotiable.
  • FLUX O1 - Combines the proven performance of the Ouster OS1 scanner with NDAA and Blue UAS approval, making it the trusted choice for scanning sensitive or regulated sites.

Across models, the workflow stays consistent: intuitive, fast, and optimized for real field use.

Why FLUX stands out

  • On-site LiDAR mapping: No more waiting, data is processed in the field.
  • Effortless workflow: Seamless integration with Freefly drones and the complimentary app Flow.
  • Accessible LiDAR: Lowers barriers for teams new to LiDAR while meeting the demands of experienced professionals.
  • Precision in motion: Lightweight, portable design that delivers reliability in real-world conditions.

These priorities mirror the foundation of our work at Aerial Precision, making FLUX feel both fresh and like a natural extension of our existing philosophy.

From first flight to first insight

Tested across construction, surveying, forestry, mining, and more, FLUX consistently delivers immediate, trustworthy results. Early users have noted faster turnaround times, fewer workflow interruptions, and greater confidence in the point clouds captured during a single field session.

The feedback confirms what our partnership with Freefly was built on:

Professionals need LiDAR that helps them work smarter, not harder.
